Following the northern coastline, we turn south before Rethymnon to reach the monastery of Arkadi, the symbol of the islanders’ fight against the Turkish invaders.
Continuing west we arrive in Chania, the former capital of Crete. You can enjoy lunch in one of the waterfront tavernas overlooking the old Venetian harbor where the film “Zorba the Greek” was filmed, and take in the amazing scenery and atmosphere, before some free time to shop at the market, where leather goods are the local specialty.
On the way back we will stop at Rethymnon for a stroll through the quaint Old Town, a picturesque mixture of Venetian and Turkish architecture, and the current centre of Arts and Letters of Crete.
